Sensei Patrick Dunleavy

Patrick has been continuously studying Shotokan Karate since he was 6 years old. As a kid, power rangers was what drew him to martial arts, and over the years karate turned into something that led to fulfillment. Even from the very beginning, he loved karate and now, 17 years later, he is a 4th degree black belt. What has always inspired him was looking up to people who have been taking karate for a long time and seeing how far he could go with his own karate. Today, Patrick is teaching Shotokan Karate in the adult and teen classes while actively continuing his own karate training. He also regularly competes successfully in karate tournaments representing Shinkyu Shotokan.

Sempai Conrad Chu

Currently, I'm a second degree black belt in karate. I have been taking karate for 10 years and have enjoyed it since I started because it's really good exercise and has always helped me clear my mind after a long day at work. I started taking karate with my sons. They decided to stop after a few years, but I enjoyed it and kept going. I think one of the most important things is dojo etiquette because that teaches you to be humble and respect other people. It's important to adhere to the etiquette in the dojo since we are all voluntary participants and we need to respect our peers and teachers. Karate has taught me that persistent efforts help reach goals over time. The way to finish something is to never stop trying, and in regards to karate, consistently showing up to class.

Sempai Jason Leung

Jason has been taking Shinkyu Shotokan karate for 11 years and started when he was just 11 years old. He currently holds a 3rd degree black belt. He has trained with Sensei Leroy, Sue, and Nobu. Currently, he successfully competes karate tournaments, teaches karate classes, and started and teaches at his own karate club. For Jason, one of the most important aspects of karate is the focus on basics as maintenance work, because they are essential to more advanced techniques.
